Cooling System Service

The third leading cause of vehicle breakdown is caused by cooling system failure.

The function of the vehicle radiator coolant is to reduce the temperature in the vehicle's engine. Coolant protects the vehicle from overheating and freezing. Coolant allows the vehicle to operate at high temperatures and low temperatures.

Over a period of time as operating temperatures fluctuate in the vehicles engine, coolant deteriorates forming harmful deposits. These deposits build up in the vehicle's radiator and eventually restrict the flow of coolant fluid through the vehicle's engine, which leads to system failure.

A complete cooling system flush when using ZAK Products radiator products will clean and remove harmful scale deposits and rust. New, clean replacement coolant that meets vehicle manufacturer's specifications is then added to the vehicle.

The Problem

Four main engine coolant problems:

1. To lower the freezing point of distilled water so it does not freeze in extreme cold
and crack the engine block or engine head.

2. To increase the boiling point of the distilled water, water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit with the coolant and pressure added the liquid boiling point is increased to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This keeps the engine from overheating when normal engine temperature is in the 180-200 degree Fahrenheit range.

3. To keep the pH (acidity) levels down so internal engine parts do not start to rust and corrode. Newer vehicles use soft aluminum parts in the cooling system that are easily damaged by corrosion, ie: aluminum radiator, aluminum heater core, aluminum water pump, and aluminum thermostat.

4. To keep all of the cooling system seals lubricated and soft so they do not become brittle or hard causing leaks in the system.

The Solution

1) First, the technician brings the vehicle up to operating temperature and adds ZAK Radiator Cleaner into the cooling system. This cleaner is specially formulated to remove rust, sludge, and scale deposits from the cooling system. The technician then hooks up the flush machine to pull out all the old degraded coolant.

2) He then adds a 50/50 mixture of coolant and distilled water back into the vehicle coolant system. Last, the technician purges the system of all air and adds ZAK Radiator Conditioner. This conditioner protects and neutralizes the metal components. It also conditions the seals keeping them soft and lubricated.
