Power steering fluid is one of the hardest worked fluids in a
vehicle. Most power steering systems operate at 1,500 psi.
Couple that with intense heat and fluid shearing and you
have a recipe for a major breakdown. Not only is it one of
the hardest working fluids in your vehicle, it is also one of the
most overlooked. Most people don't give any thought to
their power steering system until they hear a whining noise or
the steering wheel is hard to turn. As power steering fluid
ages it loses its ability to lubricate internal moving parts,
leading to a whining noise. It also loses its ability to keep
internal seals and o-rings soft and
conditioned, leading to oil
leaks.
The Problem:
We use a power steering fluid
exchange machine that is
designed to remove the old power
steering fluid and pump in new
fluid at the same time. We
exchange your old fluid with ZAK
Power Steering Fluid, which has a
cleaning additive to remove any
soft build-up in the system.
Several times during this step, we
turn the vehicle's steering wheel
back and forth to help remove the
dirty fluid trapped in the rack. We
then finish the power steering
exchange by installing our ZAK
Power Steering Fluid with
Conditioner. The conditioner is
designed to help keep all internal
seals and o-rings soft and pliable.
