As transmission fluid ages, debris from the internal wear of
the transmission begins to build up in the fluid. If left
unattended, this can severely limit the fluid's ability to clean
and lubricate the transmission. Transmission fluid is designed
to clean the inner parts of the transmission and suspend the
wear debris in the fluid until the fluid can be exchanged.
Most transmission fluids are ready to be exchanged at
30,000 miles. By this time, they have accumulated enough
debris that they resemble dirty motor oil. Most people put off
having this service performed until they start having shifting
problems. However, putting this service off
can cause major damage to
internal parts. It's not
uncommon to spend $3,000
to $5,000 to replace your
transmission on today's high-
tech vehicles. It clearly does
not pay to neglect your
transmission fluid.
The Problem:
First, we install a cleaning product
that removes any soft deposits
and suspends them in the old
transmission fluid. We then hook
up a transmission fluid exchange
machine to your vehicle using the
factory cooler lines and perform a
transmission fluid exchange
service. The machine hooks up
"inline" and performs a one-for-
one exchange. For every quart of
transmission fluid the transmission
pump sends to the machine, the
machine sends the same amount
of fluid back to the vehicle. This
type of inline fluid exchange
replaces up to 97 percent of a
vehicle's transmission fluid. When
the exchange is complete, we
check the level of the fluid and
pour in a conditioner to aid in
extending the life of the fluid.
